Accupuncture

Your Journey to Wellness Begins with Acupuncture!

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
Acupuncture is rooted in Chinese medicine theories and offers a holistic way of dealing with health and illness.

What is acupuncture?

You probably understand that there is a link between your physical, mental and emotional health. If you have a problem with one area, it is likely that the other two will be affected. Acupuncture looks at pain and illness as signs that your body is out of balance. It’s a comprehensive health care system whose aim is to restore your body’s equilibrium so you feel physically, mentally and emotionally balanced.

When you come and see us, we look at the signs and symptoms that your body shows us – such as the temperature, colour, swelling and pain of your body. We can help you with specific disorders and, crucially, if you just have a vague feeling of not feeling quite right.

When you have acupuncture, fine sterile needles are inserted on specific points on your body with the aim of helping your body function to the best of its ability.

How acupuncture can help

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body.
It has been used for thousands of years to treat a wide range of health conditions and promote overall well-being.

Electro-acupuncture

During an electro-acupuncture session, the acupuncturist inserts the needles into specific acupoints on the body, just like in traditional acupuncture. Once the needles are in place, they are attached to the electro-acupuncture device. The device allows the acupuncturist to adjust the frequency and intensity of the electrical stimulation.

Case study

A 52-year-old man came to see us, suffering from terrible knee pain. He had fallen on his knee about a month ago and his knee was painful, stiff and swollen. It also felt warm to the touch. He had been taking anti-inflammatories but the pain didn’t diminish. He was an active person and found it upsetting that he was incapable of following his normal exercise routine.

Auricular acupuncture

Auricular acupuncture has roots in ancient Chinese medicine, but it was further developed and popularized in the 1950s by a French physician named Dr. Paul Nogier. He observed that certain points on the ear were effective in treating various health conditions and developed the somatotopic map of the ear.
